John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said that he is exercising caution in his campaign promises.
Mr. Mahama contends that this is as a result of the economic harm that the government of Dr. Bawumia and Akufo Addo created.
“I am being very measured in the promises that I make because we all know the crisis in which this country has been plunged,” he said while addressing NDC supporters in Hohoe in the Volta Region.
Ghana’s economy is currently fraught with macroeconomic challenges due to regressive taxes, currency depreciation, inflation, and reckless borrowing, exacerbated by the bloated size of government, overspending, wastage, and corruption.
The NPP government has plunged the country into a severe economic crisis. As the Minority Leader of Parliament, Honorable Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, pointed out at a press conference in October last year, it will take more than 20 years to fix the mess created by this government.
The former president said that he is unable to commit to anything major against this background, adding that Ghanaians will be shocked to learn the full scope of the catastrophe that Akufo Addo and Dr. Bawumia have caused.
“We will show you the books and finances of this country, and you will realize the harm that the New Patriotic Party administration has done to this country, the economy is broke.”
