Lawyer Thaddeus Sory has fired back at former Attorney-General Godfred Dame, calling him a “cry baby” in response to Dame’s public and legal attacks.
Sory said Dame continuously drags his name into media discussions, despite previously accusing him of being obsessed. “He ends nearly every interview mentioning me. So again, who’s obsessed with whom?” Sory asked.
He pointed out contradictions in Dame’s conduct, citing an incident where Dame objected to him representing the Speaker of Parliament but later criticized him for not appearing in court.
Sory also accused Dame of mishandling legal arguments. In the Jakpa case, Sory said the Court of Appeal upheld his legal point and described Dame’s withdrawn Supreme Court appeal as “incompetent.”
“He keeps repeating flawed arguments. If he wants to know why the appeal failed, I’ll gladly explain,” Sory added.
Responding to Dame’s claim that Sory’s public criticisms breach professional ethics, Sory referenced Rule 38 of the legal code. He accused Dame of routinely violating this rule by discussing cases in the media.
“What’s more unethical than prosecuting cases on radio and social media?” Sory said, challenging the Attorney-General’s silence from the General Legal Council.
Sory dismissed Dame’s claim of a past courtroom victory over him. “He can’t even name the case. Meanwhile, I beat him in the Jakpa case just last year.”
Concluding his statement, Sory apologized to friends and supporters for engaging in the spat. “Forgive me. Sometimes, you must knock some sense into a cry baby’s head,” he said.
The exchange has stirred public debate on legal ethics and the conduct of Ghana’s top legal officers.
