Licensed teachers say they will make governance uncomfortable to the government if it goes ahead to deduct their salaries to pay an insurance premium.

The teachers said they are not interested in the compulsory insurance policy the government, through the Ministry of Education, is bent on rolling out from April this year.

The Ministry of Education tested the patience of the teachers last year April with the introduction of a compulsory insurance policy for the teachers, but the vehement protest by the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Association got government to retire its authoritative decision along the line.

Awuley Quaye Adoquaye, PRO of the Coalition, told an Accra-based radio station Thursday that his members have been hinted of the government’s intention of revisiting its withdrawn policy.

“We have not asked the government to register us with any insurance company. It is a personal decision a member has to make and there must not be a compulsion from anybody.

“We are going to pay the premium and so we can decide which insurance company to register with…the government cannot force a company on our throat,” he said.

Mr Adoquaye warned of hauling the government to court if it deducts their premium for some insurance policy they have not tasked the government to roll them on.

“We are not kids for the government to be taking unilateral decision for us,” he ended.
