Teachers cry over unpaid salaries; threaten demonstration

Teachers all over the country shall be converging at Obra Sport at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra on Thursday, July 5, to demonstrate against the government and the Ghana Education Service over unpaid Salary arrears.

In a statement copied to Awake news, the teachers have been granted permission by the Police Service to undertake the demonstration on the said date.

The demonstration is expected to begin from 8:30 am on July 5, 2018.

According to the leadership of the teachers, they have struck a deal with the Ghana Police Service to protect all victims of the three months pay policy ranging from 2012 to date during the demonstration.

“There is no gainsaying that a victim is a victim no the circumstance or union the person belongs to thus, we’re calling on every teacher across the length & breadth of the country who are victims of this ‘killer policy ‘ to come out in our numbers to demonstrate and let the government and the GES know the severity of our situation and to compel government to pay us our monies to end this arrears ‘saga ‘ ” the group indicated.

The routes agreed on by the police is as follows: From Obra Spot, through Francisco, through TUC, through Accra Technical University, through Atta Mills to the independence square where the leadership of the victims will be escorted to the ministry of education for a petition to be presented to the Minister.
