Mr. Bernard Potakey, an ICT teacher at the newly built Nkwanta Senior High Technical School has donated three (3) avenue seats “lovers bench” to the school the in the Volta Region.
[ads1]The headmaster, Mr. Avevor who received the items on behalf of the students, teachers and PTA, thanked Mr. Potakey for his gesture and called on others to emulate him.
“You know it’s a new school and they lack some of these amenities. It’s a day school and I want them to also have the feel of a senior high school. Aside these, I really have the passion for identifying and helping the rural poor communities and students especially the girl child” – Mr. Potakey told Awake News’ Daavy Eli in an interview after the donation.
Mr. Potakey who said he sees actor John Dumelo as his mentor, is appealing to the citizens to come together to “help build our society, our immediate environment”
He also used the opportunity to call on stakeholders in the educational sector to support more rural schools which he said cannot be only government’s responsibility.
“I’m appealing to well meaning Ghanaians, NGOs, Philanthropists to also come on board to assist the government in developing our schools.” – He said
Mr. Potakey, last year, organised about 50 students and 10 teachers of the same school to a top hotel in town – Gateway Hotel where the students were taken through how to use the cutlery sets and some Health tips from personnel of the district health directorate.
In 2010, during his national services at Krachi Senior High School, the young philanthropic teachers personally assisted the school in getting 20 brand new computers, UPS, 2 split air conditioners, printer, scanner and an LCD projector for the school the form donation from GIFEC.
He is said to have also assisted Dambai College of Education to establish a relationship with the Ghana India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT, the current ultra modern signpost at the entrance of the college was a gift from Microsoft Ghana which he lobbied for among other social intervention programs.
