Rashid Tanko Computer, Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to respect the rule of law and allow state security agencies to do their work.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on May 29, Tanko Computer said the era of selective justice is over and stressed that all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, must abide by the law.
“We are in an era where the law is the law. We should allow security agencies to do their work. Being a party chairman does not put anyone above the law,” he stated.
His remarks follow the arrest and detention of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations of causing financial loss to the state.
The Minority in Parliament and NPP leaders protested outside EOCO, demanding a change in Wontumi’s bail conditions.
Tanko Computer criticized the NPP’s protest as lawless and hypocritical. He recalled that during the NPP’s time in government, NDC officials faced arrests without similar uproar.
“Under their regime, NDC’s National Chairman, Ofosu Ampofo, was arrested and prosecuted. The Minority didn’t behave like this,” he said.
He also accused the NPP of dragging President John Mahama into the matter unnecessarily.
“Why is the President being involved? What does he have to do with this? Is the President controlling the security agencies?” Tanko asked.
He warned the NPP against politicizing lawful processes, reminding them that their past administration had numerous questionable arrests.
