Suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has filed a supplementary affidavit in court, claiming she is being subjected to rights violations and mental torture during ongoing proceedings related to her removal.
In the affidavit dated May 26, she accused the committee probing her of denying her a fair hearing. “I respectfully seek leave of this Honourable Court to bring to its attention various developments… which evidence a complete desecration of my basic constitutional rights,” she stated.
Torkornoo described the conditions of the hearing as degrading. She cited several concerns, including being searched, denied access to phones and laptops, and separated from her family during proceedings.
“The denial of access into the hearing room for my husband and children, searches on my body, and denial of devices, despite counsel for the petitioners having access, are deliberate acts meant to inflict mental torture,” she wrote.
She also questioned why her hearing is being held at the Castle, Osu, a high-security zone, unlike past Article 146 proceedings, which took place in judicial facilities.
“The location of proceedings affecting me in a cordoned high-security facility boggles the mind,” she added.
