Wodekum Community is a small suburb in Suhum which has struggled so many years to catch up with developmental attention. Their geographical location in the municipality may possibly be the root cause for their lack of development in the area. However, the NPP Government ensuring that Ghanaians no matter where one belongs or finds himself or herself, must enjoy his or her share of the national cake.
Yesterday 8th August, the Suhum Municipal Chief Executive and the Municipal Assembly commissioned a completed Electrification project for the people of Wodekum Community. Alluding biblically, there was light when the Suhum MCE commanded “let there be light”. An overwhelmingly joy filled the people of Wodekum Community singing and chanting praises of appreciation to NPP Government and the Hon MCE for Suhum. “Nana Addo yen ye wo den ni, woye Pue, Madam yen ye wo den ni, wo ye pue” was one of the songs composed by the people of Wodekum Community.
Interacting with Members of the Community after the commissioning, the Hon Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs Margaret Darko Darkwah advised that, now that the Community has been connected to the national grid, doors are now opened for their personal development and so they should take advantage of it to improve their little Conner they find themselves. She advised them to make good use of the electricity power now at their disposal to enhance their lives. Reminding the Community of the permanent maintenance of this project, the Hon MCE said that they would have to save some money out of their income to pay for the monthly bills for the usage of the power. “Development comes with a cost and the Government will need the support of Ghanaians to provide these developmental projects” the Hon MCE pleaded.
Drawing the attention of the community members of the various government’s initiative under his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo bringing reliefs to the citizens, Hon Margaret Darko Darkwah, pointed out that the on going free senior high school has come to stay and that parents should take advantage of it to encourage their wards to study hard to be beneficiaries of the free shs.
She admonished the present not to pay heed to propaganda and lies in any form which seeks to flaw the intentions of the Government during elections for His Excellency the President is bent on delivering to the good people of Ghana and for that matter Suhum and it’s environs.
Filled with joy and happiness, Nene Yemetey, the Odikuro of Wodekum Community expressed appreciation to his Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo and the Municipal Assembly headed by the Hon Margaret Darko Darkwah for considering Wodekum in the sharing of the national cake. He recalled the interventions made by the Hon MCE in making sure that Wodekum is connected to the national grid. “Some of us have to be arrested and arraigned before court all because we needed light”, the odikuro said with tears of joy. He took the opportunity meeting the Hon MCE to enumerate their challenges they are facing in the Community. According to him, their roads need rehabilitation. He expressed worry about how their foodstuffs delay before getting to the market all because of the poor condition of the roads. He pleaded through the Hon MCE to the president to come to their aid. He also pleaded with the Hon MCE To help construct a three class room block to serve as a kg for their little ones before they continue to the primary school in the town. According to him, the community has over seventy children who will find it very difficult to walk that far to have their early childhood education. He pleaded that the Government should come to their aid for “as you see them, are our future leaders “, Nene Yemetey appealed.
In attendance are; the Municipal works engineer, the Municipal works sub Committee Chairman, Hon James Larweh Samoah, the Municipal Finance sub Committee Chairman, Hon John Kudwo and other Municipal Assembly staffs.
