The Oti Regional Communication Officer of the opposition Nationa Democratic Congress (NDC), Mobarak Diplomatic has slammed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to stop cutting sod for already commerced projects by the erstwhile NDC administration.

In a statement copied Awake News, Mr. Mobarak is urging the Vice President to rather focus on revising his economic “pamphlets in search of an antidote to the Economic woes which confront the good people of Ghana and Oti Region in particular.”

His statement is in reaction to reports that Dr. Bawumia has cut sod for the construction of the Hohoe-Jasikan-Dodo Pepeso road which Mr. Mobarak said “is a complete avoidable waste of state resources” adding that project was awarded to a construction company, Rolider and started during former President Mahama’s administration but was abandoned by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia led NPP government.

According to him “It was the same stretch of road that the NPP administration said it needed time to do rationalisation and after three and half years of auditing, nothing untoward has been detected. This is a deliberate attempt to prolong and to some large extent deny the good people of Oti Region from getting their roads fixed.”

“The Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia claimed yesterday to have cut sod for construction work to begin on the 88-kilometre Hohoe-Jasikan to Dodo Pepesu stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road. This is an exercise in mediocrity since the road was awarded and construction started by Rolider company in the erstwhile Mahama administration but for the directive of the corrupt President Akuffo Addo, the construction of that stretch of the road would have been completed in 2017.”

“As captured under the critical roads in the 2020 budget presented by the Finance Minister Mr Ken Offori Atta, we are extremely dismay about the level of Dishonesty by the president, the Vice president and the Finance Minister for the deceit and propaganda they have attached to some critical infrastructure needs of the people within the Oti Enclaves.” – he fumed

Corrupt President Akuffo Addo and Dishonest Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia must walk their talks on Critical Roads in Oti Region

The recent sod cutting for the construction of the Hohoe-Jasikan- Dodo Pepeso road is a complete avoidable waste of state resources by the Vice President who should have been revising his Economics pamphlets in search of an antidote to the Economic woes which confront the good people of Ghana and Oti Region in particular.

Oti Region is amongst the newly created regions with abandoned projects such as Roads, Schools (Both Basic and Secondary), CHPS compounds etc.

The erstwhile President Mahama led administration has done a lot of projects which came to a standstill as a result of a change of Government in the last election.

As captured under the critical roads in the 2020 budget presented by the Finance Minister Mr Ken Offori Atta, we are extremely dismay about the level of Dishonesty by the president, the Vice president and the Finance Minister for the deceit and propaganda they have attached to some critical infrastructure needs of the people within the Oti Enclaves.

The Vice president Mahamudu Bawumia claimed yesterday to have cut sod for construction work to begin on the 88 kilometer Hohoe- Jasikan to Dodo Pepesu stretch of the Eastern Corridor Road.

This is an exercise in mediocrity since the road was awarded and construction started by Rolider company in the erstwhile Mahama administration but for the directive of the corrupt president Akuffo Addo, the construction of that stretch of the road would have been completed in 2017.

The dishonest Vice President, Mahamudu Bawumia must be ashamed of himself for his futile assurance to the residents of Oti Region that, his government would ensure the project is completed on schedule.

It was the same stretch of road that the NPP administration said it needed time to do rationalisation and after three and half years of auditing, nothing untoward has been detected. This is a deliberate attempt to prolong and to some large extent deny the good people of Oti Region from getting their roads fixed.

Under the Project Profile of the same project, the contract sum of 54 million US dollars is thievery and a clear avenue to looting the public purse contrary to their popular slogan of “protecting the public purse”.

Also, the contract period of 30 calendar months is deliberately fixed to hoodwink Ghanaians and for that matter the people of Oti Region into believing that, quality work will be done but in reality, they want to buy votes towards the said construction on that stretch of road.

The Vice president has indeed demonstrated his level of dishonesty characterized with insincerity and undue delay in order to exchange such projects for votes in 2020 election.
It must be noted that, this is not the first time, this particular frozen road project was captured in the budget statement of the NPP government led by the inept, deceptive, nepotistic, insensitive and corrupt Akuffo Addo. In fact, the 2019 budget statement presented by same Mr. Ken Ofori Atta captured on page 147, paragraph 727 in table 23, Jasikan Dodo-Pepeso road as one of the roads to be constructed in 2019. The only modification done to this particular stretch of the road in 2020 budget was the reclassification of the project under sinohydro deal.

We need an immediate resumption for all abandoned roads listed below, because they are also of major concern to the people in Oti and Volta Region.

Nkwanta- Kpassa, Nkwanta- Dambai,Peki through Kpeve-Hohoe roads that forms part of the Eastern Corridor Project. The rest include Atsito-Fiaxo road,Todome-Kpalime through Tangor -Dzemeni, Vakpo -Wusuta Kpebe and a dual carriage roads from Sokode to Ho among, many others across the Volta and Oti Regions.

The sod cutting ceremony is a complete waste of state resources and should be a major concern to all well-meaning Ghanaians. The heavy burden taxes imposed on Ghanaians by the Akuffo Addo government must be put to good use and value for money must be attached to every step taken by this government.

The NDC is well positioned to fast track the completion of all the abandoned projects by the NPP when given the opportunity in 2020 to serve the good people of Ghana.
