Multiple award winning investigative journalist and Executive Director of the Africa Centre for International Law and Accountability (ACILA), Mr. William Nyarko has waded into the questionable SSNIT US$72million contract debate saying more “intelligence” information is needed to be able to connect the dots properly.
“The SSNIT $72m unconscionable contract…We need more [ads1]”intelligence” information to be able to connect the dots properly.” – He said in his facebook post.
Officials at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) are being investigated by Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for their roles in awarding $72million United State dollars for its software.
Dr. Afaglo, Head of IT at SSNIT who has been interdicted two day ago for allegedly securing the top job with fake certificate is also being accused of responsible for some of the variations in the controversial software contract that ballooned from an initial budget of $34 million to $72 million within a period of 24 months.
Providing some tips on how to unravel the scheme of alleged corruption in the SSNIT case, the veteran investigative journalist who is noted for investigating high level corruption scandal in the 90s, said, there is the need to know those “behind Perfect Business System and Silver Lake Consortium, the two companies that won the contract.”
“Company registration info and tracking the individuals to determine their access to power would be very helpful.” – he added
According to him, more work need to be done to establish how those who took the decision to award that million dollar contract benefited.
“On the SSNIT side, we should figure out how those who took the decision to award the contract benefited. One can’t hide such $m for long…From the contract award to now, what properties have these decision-makers acquired both in Ghana and abroad in their names and other names?” – He provides more angels to help uncover the truth.
“Any significant lifestyle changes? Even bank (might require a court order ) and securities info?” – he added
Meanwhile, one important name already associated with the scandal, apart from Mr. Afaglo, is former Director General, Ernest Thompson. The software deal was initiated during his tenure.
