Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams wants football authorities to maintain Ghana’s current U-20 team for future competitions, especially the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The Black Satellites exited the 2025 U-20 AFCON in the quarterfinals after losing on penalties to Egypt. That defeat also ended their hopes of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Despite the setback, Coach Desmond Ofei’s side remained unbeaten in regular time and topped their group. Midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah led a team that played exciting, possession-based football and earned praise from fans.

During a meeting with the new Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) board, Adams praised the team’s performance. “They lost at the quarterfinal stage, but this is a solid squad,” he said. “With a few additions, they can develop into a strong U-23 team for the next Olympics.”

He urged officials to keep the players together and prepare them for 2028. Adams said their potential, if well managed, could improve Ghana’s medal chances.

Ghana last won an Olympic football medal in 1992 and has not qualified since 2004. Adams believes this young team could end that drought.
