In a dramatic turn of events, the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has removed former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from the list of wanted persons.

This decision comes after Ofori-Atta’s lawyers transmitted a communication to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) stating a definite date for his voluntary return to Ghana.

The OSP had previously declared Ofori-Atta a wanted person and a fugitive from justice on February 12, 2025, after he failed to indicate a reasonable time for his return to Ghana.

Ofori-Atta had been informed that he was a suspect in various corruption and corruption-related cases and was directed to physically attend the OSP for an interview.

However, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers claimed that he was unaware of the OSP’s invitation, as he was outside the country for medical reasons.

They assured the OSP that they would notify the office once he was in a position to return to Ghana.

With Ofori-Atta’s stated date of voluntary return deemed reasonable by the OSP, the Special Prosecutor has rescheduled the date of his attendance at the OSP.

Consequently, Ofori-Atta has been removed from the list of wanted persons, and the OSP no longer considers him a fugitive from justice.

The OSP has cautioned that if Ofori-Atta fails to voluntarily return to Ghana on the stated date or fails to attend the OSP on the rescheduled date, he will be re-entered on the list of wanted persons, and the OSP will take necessary legal steps to secure his return.
