The Executive Director of Alliance for Social Equity & Accountability, Mr. Mensah Thompson has responded to Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah asking him to show Ghanaians what the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia led NPP government have to show for the 64 cabinet meetings that he [Kojo] is touting as an achievement of the government.
The Information Minister at Meet The Press today, Sunday, November 3, 2019 said President Akufo-Addo in just 3 years in office has so far held 64 cabinet meetings which he said is a sign of the President’s deep involvement in the running of his government adding that Nana Akufo-Addo has “got his eye on the ball.”
According to him Nana Addo’s predecessor, John Dramani Mahama only held about 48 Cabinet meetings in his four years at the helm of government between 2013 and 2017.
This, however, seems not to have made any sense to Mr. Thompson and a press statement signed by Awake News expressed a total disappointment at Mr. Oppong Nkrumah’s assertion saying is a total insult to “summon journalists (with taxpayers money) on a hot Sunday afternoon to Peduase Lodge to tell them how many more cabinet meetings you have held than the previous government…are you kidding me?”
“Seriously there can never be a better description for abject mediocrity and the desperation of Nothing to celebrate!” – He said
For him, the government is abusing the Communication Machinery by turning it into a “live-wire propaganda appendage of the NPP.
“Quite frankly I think this government is seriously abusing the Government Communication Machinery, turning it into a live-wire propaganda appendage of the NPP instead of a robust, targeted, citizen-centered information flow machinery.” – He added
“The idea of meet the press, townhall meetings and Ministerial Press Encounters have all been abused, from an honest government-citizen encounters to a Political Campaign rhetoric, so much as I’m disappointed with today’s encounter, I am not surprised at all.” – he added
Touting the former NDC administration led by John Mahama’s achievements with the 49 cabinet meetings, Mr. Thompson said:
“But Kojo, the previous government had about 49 cabinet meetings in the entire 4 years and we saw, Circle Interchange, we saw the Mallam Kasoa Interchange, we saw the beautiful Ridge Hospital Project, we saw the Legon Hospital Project and the bank of Ghana Hospital project, we saw over 70 E-blocks completed and several others at various stages of completion across the Country.
We saw the Kumasi Military Hospital Project, we saw the new Terminal 3 Project at Kotoka, we saw the Ho Airport Project, the Kumasi Airport expansion project, we saw the Wa Regional Hospital, we saw the University of Health and Allied Sciences, we saw free fertiliser distribution to cocoa farmers, we saw the KarPower badge and the AMERI Power Plant moving us from an energy deficit to an energy surplus Country.
We saw free School Uniforms and sandals distributed across the Country plus free textbooks improving the textbook to student ratio tremendously.
We saw the Kejetia Market Project and the Kotokoraba Market in capecoast, we saw the inauguration of the Kojokrom railway line and several others across the Country….And I can go on and on…and all these came out of just 39 Cabinet Meetings.”

Show Us What you have Produced with your 64 Cabinet Meetings!- ASEPA to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah
As for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and insults, I really don’t know where he learnt that from so quickly…
You summon journalists (with tax payers money} on a hot Sunday afternoon to Peduase Lodge to tell them how many more cabinet meetings you have held than the previous government…are you kidding me?
Seriously there can never be a better description for abject mediocrity and the desperation of Nothing to celebrate!
Quite frankly I think this government is seriously abusing the Government Communication Machinery, turning it into a live-wire propaganda appendage of the NPP instead of a robust, targeted, citizen-centered information flow machinery.
The idea of meet the press, townhall meetings and Ministerial Press Encounters have all been abused, from an honest government-citizen encounters to a Political Campaign rhetoric, so much as I’m disappointed with today’s encounter, I am not surprised at all.
But Kojo, the previous government had about 49 cabinet meetings in the entire 4 years and we saw, Circle Interchange, we saw the Mallam Kasoa Interchange, we saw the beautiful Ridge Hospital Project, we saw the Legon Hospital Project and the bank of Ghana Hospital project, we saw over 70 E-blocks completed and several others at various stages of completion across the Country.

We saw the Kejetia Market Project and the Kotokoraba Market in capecoast, we saw the inauguration of the Kojokrom railway line and several others across the Country….And I can go on and on…and all these came out of just 39 Cabinet Meetings.
Mr. Minister, kindly show us what has come out of your 64 cabinet meetings in 3 years?
64 Cabinet Meetings and we are almost back to dumsor with the energy sector debt almost trippling from where you met it.
64 cabinet meetings and our utility bills are expensive than our rent, we cannot afford bread, 64 cabinet meetings and the dollar is around 5 Cedis, 64 cabinet meetings and students don’t have textbooks and other learning materials, 64 cabinet meetings and Polytechnic lecturers are on strike, 64 cabinet meetings are our nurses are still at home, 64 damn cabinet meetings and our lives are worse off than before.
Someone had fewer cabinet meetings and we saw what those meetings produced, So don’t come preaching to us about your plenty cabinet meetings when those meetings has actually produced nothing!
Ghanaians are getting frustrated by the day, more and more people are loosing their livelihood and their sanity, your plenty cabinet meetings don’t mean “shit” to these people![excuse my language]…
If I were you, Mr. Minister I will shut about this, because it’s pretty embarassing if you think about carefully…
Having more meetings means you needed more time to solve simple problems than what your predecessors actually used to solve the same problems and that is a testament that the previous cabinet was way smarter than the current “weak” cabinet so stop tickling yourself!
Very soon we shall return to demand from you how much you have spent on these numerous empty townhall meetings and encounters both at home and abroad…So get ready.
Cheers!
