Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding the attempted arrest of Assin South MP, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, describing the National Intelligence Bureau’s (NIB) actions as lawful and justifiable.

Rev. Fordjour had been linked to comments concerning the unfolding AirMed scandal, prompting what some have called a dramatic attempt by the NIB to pick him up from his residence. But according to Samoa Addo, the public reaction has been blown out of proportion.

Speaking on The Forum on Asaase Radio, he clarified that the NIB was within its legal mandate to act and that there was no cause for alarm. “I don’t know why we are creating a whole noise about the fact that an MP has been invited and in his invitation the NIB went to his house and attempted to arrest him and there was a compromise,” he said.

He further explained that the situation was peacefully resolved when the Minority Leader intervened and reached an agreement with the NIB to have the MP report voluntarily the next day.

Samoa Addo emphasized that security agencies like the NIB have every right to obtain and enforce arrest warrants. “Let nobody be out there and say that the NIB cannot obtain an arrest warrant to execute the arrest warrant. They have every right to do so,” he stressed.

He also noted that if Rev. Fordjour believes his privileges as an MP were breached, the proper procedures exist for filing such complaints. Until then, Samoa Addo insisted, the security agencies should not be faulted for carrying out their duties.
