The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Sam George, and the CEO of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, have pledged swift action to address copyright violations raised by Nigerian actress and producer, Bimbo Ademoye.
Bimbo recently accused some Ghanaian television stations of airing her movies without her consent.
In a video posted on her Instagram page, she expressed strong disapproval and demanded that the unauthorized broadcasts be stopped.
While many Ghanaians supported her stand against piracy, others pushed back.
Content creator and body positivity advocate, Miz Debbie, criticized Bimbo, urging her to appreciate the exposure and publicity from the broadcasts instead of complaining.
Bimbo quickly responded by reposting Miz Debbie’s video and tagging Sam George and Kafui Danku, urging them to intervene.
Sam George acknowledged the concern in the comments, assuring the actress that the government remains committed to protecting intellectual property rights.
He added that he would speak with the minister responsible for regulating television content to address the issue.
“I’ve seen your post, thanks to the tag. I’ll raise this matter with my colleague overseeing TV content. Our government respects intellectual property and will work to protect yours. Ghana and Nigeria have a lot to gain from continued collaboration,” he wrote.
NFA boss Kafui Danku also responded directly under Bimbo’s post. She assured the actress that her team is already working on a solution and that concrete actions would follow soon.
“Hi, ma’am, my management and I are working to put a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks,” she noted.
The responses from both officials offer hope that Ghana will take stronger steps to curb content piracy and foster better creative cooperation across West Africa.
