Folks, I just woke up from a really long sleep to read the news report on the old dog’s removal of Boakye Agyarko from the Ministry of Energy. I never batted an eyelid because that news was no news to me.
Every good observer of happenings under Akufo-Addo would do same. Boakye Agyarko should have been dismissed from the government long ago, considering the huge and damning allegations against him, one of which was the bribing of members of Parliament’s Appointments Committee to confirm him as the Energy Minister.
T he establishment of a committee to investigate that allegation spoke ill of the government, especially how Akufo-Addo reacted by whitewashing him, even before the Parliamentary Committee could conclude its work.
It’s not as if under Boakye Agyarko anything substantial was added to what John Mahama left behind. All the major solutions had been found to the “Dumsor” crisis by Mahama; yet, Boakye Agyarko and Co. went around claiming credit for Team Old Dog as the one that eliminated “Dumsor” from Ghana. Thieves and shameless liars!
All that happened in the rush to discredit Mahama over the Ameri deal, including what the Addison Committee was formed to do, had nothing to offer Ghana.
The indecent haste with which Boakye Agyarko approached the new Ameri deal that has raised the cost astronomically is so ridiculous as to make the Ghanaian cringe, even as spokespersons of the government defended it.
Then, the move by Parliament to suspend deliberation on the new deal for major areas of contention to be clarified first suggested that something wasn’t working well. Regardless, the old dog’s team persisted in praising the deal.
What next? Akufo-Addo rode slipshod over Parliament to use his “Executive Power” to ratify the deal, worsening the situation further.
For the records, let it be known that this move by the old dog was the first time in our 4th Republic that a President had used such an “Executive Power” to render Parliament useless.
God never sleeps. What happened? It didn’t take long for Akufo-Addo to begin biting his tongue for rushing. Apparently, he hadn’t even read properly to know the ramifications and deeper level implications of the new Ameri deal before endorsing it.
When the dust settled, especially as the Saudi pillars of Ameri disowned the new deal, saying that they weren’t a party to it and won’t accept it, Akufo-Addo saw the light to descend on Boakye Agyarko.
Could he (Akufo-Addo)—being the lawyer of sorts that he has projected himself all these decades—not have known more than he did when given the new Ameri deal that the dots in it were not connecting? Just the cost alone could have raised red flags to forewarn him!! But he didn’t. What a jerk!
Now, Boakye Agyarko is axed. No reason given in the notice removing him from office. Horrible.
Boakye Agyarko is only the tip of the iceberg of incompetence that this Akufo-Addo administration is. Knocking him off won’t solve any problem.
How about all those involved in working on this terrible new Ameri deal? Shouldn’t they go too?
And how about using this occurrence to purge the administration and remove all the non-performing appointees? (Who, though, is performing in this useless government?)
What has become of the vetting of the 110 Ministers/Deputy Ministers, and MMDCE’s that Akufo-Addo single-handedly took upon himself last year to do, beginning with Kwadwo Kyeremateng and ending the process just as it began?
Folks, do you see how an incompetent old dog behaves? Let’s see what he does next. Boakye Agyarko is gone; who goes next?
