Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has come to the defense of striker Rasmus Hojlund, whose recent goal drought has been the subject of much criticism.
The 22-year-old Danish forward has gone 16 matches without scoring, and in seven of those games, he hasn’t even registered a shot.
Amorim attributes this lack of goals to a collective issue within the team, pointing out that United’s overall offensive struggles have impacted Hojlund’s performance.
With only 30 league goals this season—fewer than most Premier League teams—Amorim believes the team as a whole is failing to create enough scoring opportunities. “We are not helping Rasmus,” he stated. “We don’t create many chances, and as a result, we’re not a very dangerous team in the final third.”
Amorim also highlighted that the team’s defensive setup, which often plays too deep, allows opponents to transition easily, further diminishing United’s offensive threat.
Despite Hojlund’s difficulties, Amorim remains optimistic about his potential. He acknowledged the challenges of being a young No. 9, particularly in a team that is still finding its rhythm.
He stressed that improving the team’s overall play would naturally benefit Hojlund, who has shown promise with his pace and technique.
Amorim believes that, with more chances created and a more confident approach, Hojlund will rediscover his form.
