Former President John Mahama has broken his long silence on the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs. Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwa.

In a facebook post from Harare where he is serving as the Head of the Commonwealth Observer Group to Zimbabwe’s harmonized Elections on July 30, Mr. Mahama said the removal of the EC boss, her two deputies and the subsequent appointment of news bosses is regrettable and has the potential of eroding Ghana’s hard earn democratic credentials.
“‪Current controversy surrounding removal of EC Chair and deputies and subsequent appointment of new commissioners is regrettable” – Mahama said.
According to the former President, the recent occurrences at the Electoral Commission “carries a potential to erode Ghana’s democratic credentials.”
Mrs. Charlotte Osei and her two deputies were removed from office by the President of Ghana based on recommendations by a committee set up by the Cheif Justice to investigative a petition filed against the three public officials.
The president has yesterday named Mrs. Jean Mensa as the nominee for the EC Chair and Mr. Samuel Tettey, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare as her two deputies with Ms Adwoa Asuama Abrefa as another member of the commission.
