The Electoral Commission has said that the referendum of the creation of new regions will be held on December 27.
This is was agreed on during the first IPAC meeting of the new Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa.
Before this, the Commission will embark on a series of activities including the registration of new and continuous voters, the exhibition of the voters’ register, as well as processes for the transfer of votes and or the grant of proxy votes.
During campaigning in the 2016 general elections, President Akufo-Addo promised to divide some regions and create new ones when elected.
This process, he started, by appointing a Minister of Regional Integration to see to it that the new regions come into fruition.
The political parties present at the meeting were impressed with the outcome.
The National Chairman of the People’s Progressive Party, Brew Hammond, was quite happy with the outcome of the meeting.
“I am satisfied, It was a fruitful meeting, it was handled with decorum and we just now need to see the details in the CI that is being put together and then we will offer our suggestion.”
