Read Ghana Foundation ln collaboration with Miracle Assemblies of God Church, Ve-Deme will be implementing their first ever Reading Competition entitled, “A reader today, a leader tomorrow”.
As a foundation, we are of the view that, a reading nation will forever be a winning nation and that, we must do everything possible for Ghana our beloved nation to win through reading.
The fact also remains that, becoming a lifetime reader is based on developing a very deep love for reading at a tender age. We, therefore, [adss]need to inculcate the culture of reading among children at early ages.
The future we have all agreed through verbal and written speeches belong to the youth and that, the youth are the future leaders.
Our question therefore is, how can the youth become future leaders if we do not inculcate the culture of reading among children? As the saying goes “A reader today, a leader tomorrow”
The participating communities in this upcoming reading competition are Ve-Deme,
Ve-Agbome,Ve-Gbodome
Liati,Leklebi,Gbledi,Fodome
Wli and Logba.
The competition will take place at the church’s premise, on this Saturday 7th April, 2018 at 10:am sharp at Ve-Deme.
This competition which is the first of its kind by the organization and as earlier stated intends on raising great awareness among school pupils from the selected communities on the importance of establishing a solid foundation in reading in order to reduce their levels of underachievement, to improve the literacy rate among children and to encourage other churches across the country to host similar internal reading competitions in order to boost pupils interest in reading because reading is the key to learning.
Three pupils each have been selected from both primary and junior high schools in each community to participate in the competition.
As it is the duty of several stakeholders to play key roles as far as reading promotion is concerned, the following dignitaries will be in attendance Hon. Wisdom S. Seneadza, D.C.E.- Afadjato South, Hon. J.Z. Amenorwode – Former MP/Volta Regional Minister, Hon. Angela Alorwu-Tay – M.P.- Afadjato South, Togbega Delume VII – Paramount Chief Ve, Ps. Delah Moses Azumah – USA,Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Dufe – Missions Director, Mr. Mathias Tulasi, C.E.O.- Read Ghana Foundation, Mr. Emmanuel Asafo-Adjei, C.E.O.-Gedaid and the hosts to be Ps Bright Mcbrain and his wife Mrs Gifty Tulasi.
Read Ghana Foundation is very hopeful that, once the contest is scaled up after a successful event come this Saturday to other churches across the country, the culture of reading among children will grow gradually and thereby making Ghana a reading nation.
As a foundation, we want to prepare and see a future generation that is well educated, inspired, informed determined, motivated and able to take over religious responsibilities once their fathers, mothers and elders have retired.
Read Ghana Foundation is highly concerned about how, illiteracy has negatively impacted people in our country and the lack of collective focus in the past has led to societal ills such as crime, unemployment divorce and lawlessness to name a few.The time is now for us all to show commitment towards inculcating reading culture among children.
As our upcoming event is a church program, we will definitely take the advantage in order to encourage young Christian children to devote their time to reading religious publications, especially the Holy Bible.
Per our research findings, a big number of children are dedicating their time to social media and watching films at the expense of reading helpful books. This situation will not promote our country and hence the need for all stakeholders to act now.
The judging criteria for the competition include pace, volume, expression, phrasing and smoothness.
As a norm Prizes will be given to the first 3 winners. Among the prizes to be won are books, certificate of participation, school bags, payment of exam fees for those in JHS and a trip to Ho etc.
To conclude, we are calling on all other churches across the country to emulate Miracle Assemblies of God Church, Ve-Deme.
Churches should not hesitate in partnering with Read Ghana Foundation anytime they want to do anything that has to do with reading and its related activities.
We say congratulations to Lives For Jesus Outreach- USA for accepting the challenge to sponsor the entire program. We are very grateful.
