Human Rights activist and President of the Youth for Human Rights Africa (YoHRA) has challenged successful African immigrants in New York to channel their resources to their countries of origin in order to help people at their respective countries to develop their potential and there by stop illegal migrations.

“The Life of Immigrants in New York is only worth celebrating if those [ads1]lives impart their origins” were some of the chilling words of the International Human Rights Activist Francis-Xavier Sosu who is the President of The Continental Human Rights Body, YoHRA.

The renowned Human Rights Lawyer and activist made the remarks when he address an audience of successful immigrants, social workers and Human Rights activists of African origin in New York during the During the Immigrants Tell Their Stories event held at the All Souls Church on 1157 Lexington Avenue, Manhattan, New York.

The event which was put together by Mr. Nick Ogutu, a community organizer, social worker and human rights activist passionate about advocating for people of African descent around the world with support from Amnesty International, New York City Commission on Human Rights, Columbia University among others.

The event created a platform to empower immigrants and refugees through the narration of their own tales.

Other speakers at the function were The CEO and Cofounder of Dream Africa, Brian Asingia. He recounted how he came to New York as a teenager and how through hardwork he consistently building a successful business empire.

A Human Rights Specialist, Christelle N. Onwu with the New York City Commission on Human Rights in her address stressed that not all Immigrants necessarily are in America or New York for the wrong reasons. She said she was not necessarily fleeing from hunger, poverty or wars in Africa. “You can be an immigrant through desires to be with family and friends” she stressed.

In a brief remark Lawyer Francis Sosu said “celebrating successful immigrants is good, but the celebration can only make meaning of those immigrants if they are willing to look back to reach out to others in deplorable conditions in their various African origins in order to prevent wrong and unguided immigrations.

“Imagine how children die in Africa due to poverty, hunger and lack of proper medical facilities. Can you imagine bout 3.1 million children die due hunger and under nutrition. These children have the right to life. Immigrants if New York and America as a whole can join us at the Youth For Human Rights Africa (YoHRA) as we seek to promote these rights and desire to make Human Rights Africa’s priority” – he added

Francis-Xavier Sosu is with his team in New York to attend the 14th Annual Human Rights Summit at the UN Headquarters as Human Rights Ambassadors with the Youth For Human Rights Africa.

The Youth For Human Rights Africa (YoHRA) is a non governmental Human Rights Organization with Mission “to serve as a medium to promote and advocate the observance of Fundamental Human Rights by the use of National, Regional, African and United Nations Human Rights Instruments” and also “to lead Human Rights Promotion and Advocacy across the continent of Africa”.
