[dropcap]M[/dropcap]y attention has been drawn to the news item on rainbowradioonline.com which was an interview I granted to Rainbow Radio yesterday on our call for General Legal Council to reverse its ban on Lawyer Francis-Xavier Sosu.
As I wish to thank the Radio Station for providing us the platform to send our massage to the people of Ghana, I’ll like to make some few remarks on what I said which did not reflect exactly what was published on their website.
[ads1]The article on the Rainbow Radio’s website reads:
The Convener of a pressure group that calls itself United for National Interest (UNI), Korsi Senyo has taken a swipe at senior lawyer, Sam Okudzeto, over the ban of lawyer Xavier Sosu.
Mr. Okudzeto, who is a member of the disciplinary committee of the General Legal Council says Mr. Sosu contravened the laws and regulation governing the practice of law in the country, and deserved the punishment to serve as a deterrent and to maintain the integrity of the profession.
Lawyer Sosu was slapped with a three year ban by General Legal Council after being found guilty of advertising his services and overcharging a client.
But Korsi Senyo says, the member of the disciplinary committee lawyer Okudzeto is equally guilty of the same offence which saw lawyer Sosu suspended.
According to him, lawyer Okudzeto’s law firm, Sam Okudzeto and Associates have ‘advertised themselves through its website’.
‘He questioned why the website which has been used by the firm has not incurred similar sanctions just like that of lawyer Sosu’.
The group is therefore calling on the General Council to reverse the ban since it is a violation of the fundamental rights of Sosu and constitution.
The ban they believe will deny justice to several vulnerable people that he is currently representing as a Counsel.
My on the highlighted portion above:
The case as I presented yesterday on the radio was not a focus on Lawyer Sam Okudzeto’s and his firm’s website though it is also a form of advert.
I specifically made references to Lawyer Okudzeto having professional profile on social media – LinkedIn and his firm having listed on many classified websites and social media – lawyers.com with their legal practice interest areas. This is the same offense for which lawyer Sosu was banned.
