Public speaking educational improvement project launched

A public speaking educational improvement project has been launched on Monday, by a non-governmental organization, Community Focus Foundation Ghana, in partnership with Young Visionary Leaders, Kamal Education Foundation, Scaleup Future, Ako Foundation and Community Connect Network to help address to fears of public speaking, among Junior High School pupils.

The project objective is to coach and mentor pupils/students to develop strong communication skills to become dynamic, incisive and assertive leaders in society and to produce quality students with leadership skills in public speaking annually in line with the project goal.

Addressing the gathering at the Ga West Municipal Assembly Hall, in Accra during the launch, the Executive Director of Young Visionary Leaders, Mr. Joseph Tettey Afangbe noted that, public speaking has become the most pervasive fears in Ghana, Africa and the world at large.

“…you may be aware, public speaking is commonly said to be one of the most pervasive fears in Ghana, Africa and the world at large. The medical term commonly used to describe the fear of public speaking is known as ‘glossophobia’ While public speaking can be a nerve-wracking experience, it can be extremely beneficial for many careers,” he noted.

He added that the need to address the fear of public speaking is the background against which the initiative is taken to train and mentor basic school pupils.

“The project objective is to coach and mentor pupils/students to develop strong communication skills to become dynamic, incisive and assertive leaders in society and to produce quality students with leadership skills in public speaking annually in line with the project goal.”

On his part, Mr. Richard Kasu, Executive Director of Community Focus Foundation Ghana, indicated that this innovative project is designed with the purpose of supporting the global drive towards the achievement of the SDG 4,  which talks of inclusive quality education for all.

After the launch, four schools; St. Joseph R/C Basic School, Amasaman M/A Basic School, Fowmag Islamic Basic School and Sacred Heart Anglican School had the first round of debate on the topic ‘Sex Education is Causing more Harm than Good in Ghanaian students’, which St. Joseph R/C Basic School won, to progress to the next stage of the competition which would be held on a later date against winners from other circuits.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Clement Lamptey Wilkinson was in attendance during the launch as a sign of his support towards the Public Speaking Educational Improvement Project.
