Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has clarified that the party’s efforts to clean up the public sector are not aimed at targeting individuals solely based on their affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Addressing concerns during an interview on Accra FM, he emphasized that the NDC, under President John Dramani Mahama, is focused on governing in the interest of all Ghanaians, not engaging in political retribution.
He criticized the previous NPP administration for removing capable professionals simply because they were associated with the NDC.
According to him, this approach hurt effective governance by replacing experienced personnel with politically favored but less qualified individuals. In contrast, Asiedu Nketia said the NDC will prioritize merit, competence, and integrity in public appointments.
He further stated that not all NPP members in public office have been involved in wrongdoing, and those who have served with diligence and honesty will not be unjustly removed. However, individuals who engaged in corrupt practices will be held accountable.
He stressed the importance of building a governance system rooted in fairness, professionalism, and national development, rather than repeating past mistakes.
