Sir. Knight Prof. Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei has is among the seven Court of Appeal Justices President John Mahama has nominated to the Supreme Court of Ghana.
Justice Adjei has been an Appeal Court Judge of Ghana from 2010. In 2022, he was elected to serve a 6-year term as Judge of the African Court of Human & Peoples Rights.
He sits on ICC’s Advisory Council; the body that oversees nomination of judges to serve on its bench from 2021.
Justice Adjei was Director of the Judicial Training Institute, Ghana (2014-19).
He was Dean, Faculty of Law at GIMPA (2019-2020); and Adjunct Professor of Law at UCC, Cape-Coast & KNUST, Kumasi.
In 2013, he was one of the 5-member C’ttee of CJ Georgina Woode to develop Ghana Sentencing Guidelines.
Justice Adjei is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Ghana School of Law, Accra where he lectures Interpretation of Statutes & Deeds; Land Law & Conveyancing.
In 2015, he chaired the Criminal Law Review C’ttee set up by the then AG Marrietta Brew to review Ghana’s corruption laws.
In 2018, he also served on the 5-member C’ttee of CJ Sophia Akuffo to develop Practice Direction (Disclosures & Case Mgt in Criminal Proceedings).
He served as Consultant to the Sierra Leone Judiciary, and Chaired their first Conference to reform its laws in 2016.
Justice Dennis Adjei was elected President of the Association of Magistrates and Judges in 2012 for two terms.
He was elected as the Inns of Court and Advanced Legal Institute of the Univ. of London Senior Judges Fellow for Common Law Jurisdiction (2022-23).
He was Chair of Kenya-based Africa Judicial Network on Environmental Law (2017-21).
Justice Adjei was knighted by Pope Benedict XVI to the order of St. Gregory the Great in 2005.
He’s an author of 6 books namely Constitutional Law of Ghana— Evolution, Theory & Practice (2020); Criminal Procedure & Practice in Ghana (3rd edition, 2021); Land Law, Practice & Conveyancing in Ghana (3rd edition, 2021); & Contemporary Criminal Law in Ghana (3rd edition, 2021); Modern Approach to the Law of Interpretation in Ghana (3rd edition, Reprinted 2021) & the Essential Laws on Credit Creation & Registration of Security Interest.
He has also co-authored the textbook titled: “The Alternative Dispute Resolution— A Ghanaian Perspective”.
He studied Laws at the University of Ghana, Legon (1988-91) and proceeded to the Ghana School of Law.
He was called to the Bar in 1993 and opened the Holy Spirit Chambers in Kumasi.
Justice Adjei holds Executive Master of Public Administration from GIMPA.
He obtained Master of Laws in..Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of London.
Justice Adjei is a fellow of Ghana Academy of Arts & Sciences.
He also holds a Master of Laws in Judicial Studies from the Duke Law School, Duke University, North Carolina, USA.
He is married and a devout Catholic.
