The 2020 running mate to former President John Mahama was the guest speaker at the Political Café at Abura-Asebu Kwamankese on September 8, 2023. The event, which took place at the Methodist Church Conference Centre in Abura-Asebu, sought to provide a platform for reflective deliberations and prescriptions of youth-led policy proposals in the local communities and constituencies.
The programme was in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES)-Ghana and the Office of the Parliamentary Candidate of Abura-Asebu Kwamankese Constituency, Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye.
The programme was organised in sessions where all the members were put into groups according to the occupational activities, such as farming and fishing, of the mmunity. Examples were the cocoa group, garden egg group, pepper group, cassava group, plantain group, etc.
Mr. Michael Abbey (Programmes Coordinator, FES Ghana) facilitated the various sessions of the programme.
There were four (4) sessions with the following topics: understanding the current issues, envisioning the future, designing the future, and next steps. These topics served as discussion points for the various groups.
Speaking on the theme “Imagining Our Constituency: Building the Abura-Asebu Kwamankese We Want,” Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang said that the theme is derived from the broader one proposed by HE John Dramani Mahama, flag bearer of the NDC, dubbed “The Ghana We Want”, which calls for mass participation in offering ideas and strategies for creating a just, prosperous, and peaceful country.
She encouraged participants to be fully involved in the exercise since the NDC encourages inclusivity.
She further used the opportunity to encourage participants who were yet to be enrolled on the National Voter Register to get involved in the upcoming limited registration exercise.
In her closing remarks, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang thanked the participants for taking the exercise seriously through their involvement in the sessions and reminded them of the need to mobilise the youth to register and become active participants in the mission to rescue the country from misdirection.
Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye assured the participants that he would work with the resolutions and discussions of the programme should he be elected Member of Parliament for the area. He further thanked Prof. Opoku-Agyemang for sitting throughout the sessions and encouraging participants to fully partake in the exercise.
Participants were drawn from various sectors of the economy in the AAK constituency.
In attendance were Hon. Felix Ofosu Kwakye (Parliamentary Candidate, Abura-Asebu Kwamankese Constituency), Michael Abbey (Programmes Coordinator-FES, Ghana), Hon. Napoleon Nsarkoh (Presiding Member), Hon. Aba Edusah (Former DCE), Mr. Vincent Koomson (Chairman), and Solomon Abaka Yawson (NDC AAK Constituency Vice Chairman).
