Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, who also serves as the Majority Chief Whip, claimed that the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government polluted more water bodies than the Akufo-Addo-led administration.

During an emergency parliamentary sitting on Tuesday, September 4, 2024, to discuss the negative effects of illegal mining activities, commonly known as ‘galamsey’, the lawmaker criticized the previous government after the minority claimed that the current regime has failed to tackle the menace.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh argued that an investigation would reveal that the NDC caused more water pollution during their tenure.

He said “I was very happy when the Minority Leader challenged us that we will debate this matter and the culprit will be mentioned. In fact, we are ready to debate now. If we are to look and investigate both sides of the house. You have had the opportunity to rule this country before. I can tell you; you polluted the water more than us. You polluted the water more than us. So, let’s get matters straight.”

In response to this, the outspoken lecturer questioned the MP’s educational background and the basis for his statement.

In a social media post, Prof. Gyampo expressed the opinion that governance is a serious business and should not be entrusted to just anyone.

“’The NDC has polluted water bodies more than the NPP’, should this statement be made by an educated MP who has been elected to help solve our problems?” he quizzed.

Concluding on the importance of governance, on his Facebook wall he said “governance is too serious a business to be left in the hands of just anybody!”
