Political scientist, Prof. Ransford Gyampo, private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu and former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo are among the nearly 100 Ghanaians who have signed a petition seeking Parliament to investigate the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

This comes after EOCO discontinued the investigations into a money laundering case against former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah in whose house the Special Prosecutor retrieved huge sums of money during a search.

According to the group, EOCO had enough basis to investigate Cecilia Dapaah for money laundering as she could not provide the source of her money. It argued that “The failure to explain the source of the money should have been the cornerstone of the investigation.”

The group comprising about 100 people across multiple professions such as legal, security, academia and private business said EOCO’s decision to drop the case was a deliberate attempt to protect the source of the money. It added that the follow-up commentary exposed the flaws in EOCOS’s decision.

“Upon receipt of the docket, EOCO did not act timeously to seize the money that the OSP was returning to Madam Cecilia Dapaah as publicly stated by the OSP”.

The group took this initiative after the public fallout ensued between the state anti-corruption agencies investigating Cecilia Dapaah.
