As an advocate for Ghanaian craftsmanship, President Mahama expressed pride in wearing suits sewn by local tailors, reinforcing his commitment to supporting the nation’s fashion sector.

“I have always championed the cause of Made-in-Ghana clothing, and I am proud to say that all my political suits are sewn by Ghanaian tailors,” he stated.

During Ghana Fashion Week, Mahama will take to the runway three times, with each appearance dedicated to showcasing the work of different Ghanaian designers. His involvement is seen as a significant step in boosting the visibility of Ghanaian talent and celebrating the country’s growing presence in the global fashion industry.

“This is not just an event for me, but a celebration of the talent and creativity of our people,” Mahama added, signaling his intention to highlight the importance of fashion as part of the broader cultural landscape.

The Ghana Fashion Week, set to run for seven days in July, is a cornerstone of the Black Star Experience, a government initiative designed to promote the nation’s cultural and creative sectors. The event aims to position Ghana as a major player in the international fashion scene and will feature a diverse array of designers, models, and industry leaders.

Through this initiative, the government seeks to further elevate Ghana’s standing in the global creative economy, drawing attention to the country’s rich heritage and innovative spirit across various artistic fields, including fashion, cinema, cuisine, and literature.
