In his first State of the Nation Address, President John Dramani Mahama addressed longstanding claims about his handling of Ghana’s power crisis, popularly known as “Dumsor.”
He firmly rejected assertions that he failed to resolve the issue before leaving office in 2017. Reflecting on the milestone of February 26, 2025, which marks 10 years since he made his commitment to end power outages, Mahama reiterated that he delivered on his promise.
“Yesterday, February 26, 2025, marks exactly 10 years since I stood in this chamber at this very spot to declare my determination to fix Dumsor, a legacy problem of power shortages. Mr Speaker, I fixed it,” Mahama said. He clarified that from January 2016 until he handed over power in 2017, there were no power rationing or load management issues in the country.
Building on this confidence, the President vowed to tackle the current economic challenges facing Ghana.
Drawing inspiration from the Almighty God and the strong mandate given to him by the people of Ghana, Mahama declared, “I, John Dramani Mahama, will fix the economic crisis confronting our country and reset it on a path of growth and prosperity.”
His statement reassured Ghanaians that, just as he had addressed the power crisis in the past, he is determined to bring the country’s economy back on track.
