President Nana Akufo-Addo is set to commission the completed Jamestown Fishing Harbour project on Thursday, September 12, the Director of Communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin, has announced.

In a press statement, Mr. Arhin said, “Jamestown Fishing Harbour completed; and will be commissioned on Thursday by President Akufo-Addo.”

The multi-million dollar project began in August 2020, and in July of this year, the contractor, CRCC Harbour and Channel Engineering Bureau Group Limited—a Chinese marine engineering company—announced its completion.

The project involved dredging approximately 100,000 cubic meters of the Harbour Basin, constructing hydraulic structures spanning about 1,251 meters, and building facilities such as office buildings, trading markets, cold storage, processing areas, and commercial spaces.

Sources indicate that the project has been in planning since 1965. It was, however, brought to fruition after the Akufo-Addo-led government secured a US$60 million grant from the Chinese government for its construction.
