In what appears to be an extension of State capture to the judiciary, President Akufo Addo has stocked the country’s High Court in his latest appointment with stalwarts of the governing New Patriotic Party.
It has emerged that among judges appointed to the bench included a two term Parliamentary candidate of the NPP in the Ho Central Constituency, Ernest Yao Gaewu, and two term failed Parliamentary candidate aspirant of the Party in the Dormaa Constituency and Constituency Chairman, Solomon Oppong Twumasi.
These appointments has set social media ablaze with many questioning the neutrality of the NPP kingpins appointed as judges in matters relating to their political opponents.
Some say these appointments will dilute the constitutional provision which says the judiciary in independent and not subject to the control of anybody.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sworn into office sixteen (16) new justices of the High Court.
The ceremony took place at the Jubilee House on Wednesday September 16.
The Justices of the High Court sworn in by the President are Her Honour Eva Bannerman-Williams, His Honour Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, His Honour Yaw Owoahene Acheampong, His Honour Samuel Boakye-Yiadom, His Honour Abdul Yusif Asibey, Mrs. Elfreda Amy Dankyi, Mr. Samuel Faraday Johnson, Ms. Sheila Minta, Her Honour Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, Nana Yaw Gyamfi Frimpong, Mr. Ernest Yao Gaewu, Mr. Solomon Oppong-Twumasi, Mr. Charles Bentum, Mr. Joseph Adu-Owusu Agyeman, Mr. William Osei-Kuffour, and Mr. Douglas Seidu.
