A Ghanaian preacher, Prophet Elija Joshua, founder of Glory and Dominion Ministry, has taken it upon himself to replace the vandalized statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Effiankwanta Hospital roundabout in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region.

The prophet, who also contested as an independent parliamentary candidate in the Evalue-Ajomoro Gwira Constituency, has already made a payment of GHC40,000 to a sculptor who has commenced work on the new statue.

According to Prophet Joshua, arrangements are being made to seek the consent of the ex-president, members of the Western Region House of Chiefs, the Western Regional Minister, and other authorities before the final work is ready.

“I have already made a full payment of GHC40,000 to the sculptor and he has assured me the work will be ready in May this year,” he stated.

The new statue will be mounted at the same location where the original was vandalized.

Prophet Joshua’s gesture is a testament to his appreciation for the former president’s contributions to the Western Region.

“Akuffo began the construction of expansion works to convert Effiankwanta Hospital to a teaching hospital status. He also initiated the construction of the Takoradi Market Circle and the Kwame Nkrumah interchange. There is ongoing work to dualise the Sekondi to Takoradi and Agona Nkwanta roads.

These works show that Akuffo Addo left a legacy in the Western Region and deserves appreciation,” he added.

If authorities prevent him from mounting the statue, Prophet Joshua has vowed to take it to his hometown or put it at the back of his pickup truck and drive around, as a symbol of his appreciation for the former president’s good works.
