Police in Somanya have launched a full-scale investigation into the suspected murder of a 30-year-old tricycle rider, Otu Samuel, whose lifeless body was found under mysterious circumstances in the early hours of Saturday, May 3.
The disturbing discovery was made in the Dorhetso area of Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region. Samuel was found naked and lying face-up near a gutter, raising suspicions of foul play.
Shockingly, his tricycle, bearing the registration number M-23-GR 7942, was found nearby in flames, suggesting a possible attempt to destroy evidence.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. after Samuel and some others, believed to be with him in the tricycle, were reportedly chased by unknown individuals following allegations of theft. While the others managed to escape, Samuel was not as fortunate.
Residents questioned by police claimed they neither heard any commotion nor saw what happened. The silence surrounding the incident has deepened the mystery, as authorities try to piece together the events that led to Samuel’s death.
He was confirmed dead on arrival at the Yilo Krobo District Hospital by a physician assistant. His body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and a pending autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have not made any arrests yet but are appealing to the public to volunteer any information that could help unravel the truth behind the gruesome killing.
