The bullion driver, according to the Eastern Regional Police spokesperson ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, was providing security for the bullion van transporting money from Akosombo to Koforidua.

He said “On reaching Odumase Manya Krobo…he saw some mourners carrying a coffin and had blocked the road with the coffin. So the policeman in an attempt to open up the road to enable van with the money on board to quickly get away from the scene where there has been traffic, he accidentally fired and the gunshot hit the bullion van driver who died instantly.”

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue.
