Akyem Swedru Member of Parliament Kennedy Osei Nyarko has issued a stern warning against the ongoing efforts to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, describing the move as a dangerous assault on the integrity of Ghana’s judicial system.
His concerns come amid multiple petitions submitted to the President calling for the Chief Justice’s removal.
These petitions are currently under consideration by the Council of State, and Chief Justice Torkornoo has been given the opportunity to respond.
But Kennedy Osei believes the consequences of such an action could be dire. In a strongly worded social media post, he argued that pushing for the Chief Justice’s removal risks tearing apart the Judiciary and undermining its independence.
He cautioned that this could lead to long-lasting damage, warning that the Judiciary may never recover from the political fallout and internal divisions such a move could unleash.
If this attempt succeeds, the Judiciary will be completely divided and destroyed, he said, adding that past governments have failed in similar attempts and this one should not succeed either.
He called on all well-meaning Ghanaians and democratic institutions to resist the attempt, stating that preserving the strength and unity of the Judiciary is critical to safeguarding democracy in Ghana.
Kennedy Osei’s remarks come at a time when public trust in state institutions is already under strain, making his warning a call for reflection and restraint.
