The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, was visibly emotional as he spoke out about the horrific killings in Bassa Local Government Area, where over 50 people lost their lives.
In a video shared by Channels Television, Mutfwang broke down in tears, apologizing to the people of Plateau State for failing to prevent the tragedy.
The attack on the Zikke community came just days after another deadly assault on five different communities in Bokkos LGA, also resulting in the loss of over 50 lives.
Mutfwang expressed his deep sorrow, stating that he had hoped the security measures in place would prevent such an attack, but unfortunately, those efforts had not been enough.
“I have been crying since yesterday because I had trusted that all the arrangements we had put in place would prevent this,” he said, reflecting on his administration’s failure to protect the people.
Despite the investments made in security, the governor acknowledged the vulnerability of human efforts and admitted, “On Sunday night into Monday morning, we failed you. Please, forgive me.”
Mutfwang urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and work closely with security forces to prevent further violence.
He also extended his condolences to the grieving families, promising that the state would continue to work towards ensuring the safety of its citizens.
