Former captain of the French National team, Marcel Desailly has explained why he was unable to transform El Wak Stadium into a modern facility like he intended.
Marcel Desailly was born as Odenke Abbey on September 7,1968 in Accra to Ghanaian parents.
He began his career at FC Nantes when the family relocated to France. However, Desailly’s decision was spot on as he enjoyed a stellar footballing career which was capped with winning the world cup in 1998.
Over the years, Marcel Desailly has been accused albeit unfairly by a lot of Ghanaians for failing to use his influence to develop sports in Ghana.
In an interview with Joy FM’s Nathaniel Attoh on Saturday, August 7, 2021, Desailly revealed that, he had an interest in developing sports infrastructure in Ghana which was marred by corruption.
In furtherance, Desailly disclosed that, he had plans of transforming the El Wak sports stadium into a modern facility but was unsuccessful owing to the fact that, most of the people who could have made it a possibility were shady.
“I had plans for El Wak Stadium to make it a modern facility but it was hell because most of the people are corrupt”, Marcel Desailly said.
