In a recent interview on Morning Starr on Starr FM, lawyer and politician Ayikoi Otoo defended the decision to remove former Inspector General of Police (IGP) George Akuffo Dampare, emphasizing that it was a necessary move due to the growing discontent within the police service.

Otoo pointed out that the appointment of the deputy IGP was a clear indication that a change in leadership was being prepared, as there had been widespread calls for Dampare’s removal. He noted that the government had to respond to these concerns.

While Otoo expressed confidence in the newly appointed IGP’s credentials and leadership experience, he also highlighted that true leadership goes beyond the exercise of power.

According to Ayikoi Otoo, leadership should focus on engaging and collaborating with subordinates, not solely relying on personal authority. He suggested that Dampare’s leadership style, which appeared to concentrate decision-making power around himself, may have played a role in his removal.
