The chief of Torkpo, a community along the Tadzewu-Hevi road in the Ketu-North District of the Volta region, Torgbui Agbozo Kutu III, has said residents of his community are left to the peril of flood during the raining season.
The chief made this statement during the 24th anniversary celebration of the Torkpo Development Association on Thursday 4th January, 2018.
Torgbui lamented over what he called poor road construction. According to him, since the completion of the Hevi-Tadzewu road, the community becomes flooded anytime it rains, which he attributed to lack of drainages along that portion of the road.
“When the engineer was doing the road, we pleaded to him to make sure they construct gutters that will drain the water anytime it rains” – Torgbui said
“We also asked him to extend that part of the road that enters the community, just as they’ve done at other places and he (the engineer) agreed to do it. But they left that unattended to. I’ve gone to see the Ketu-North DCE and that of Akatsi-South under the previous government over this problem but nothing has since been done.” – he added
Some residents also added that, the phenomenon sometimes prevent them from going about their daily activities.
They expressed worry over the fact that the situation may worsen in the future if nothing is done urgently about it.
A check on the road reveals that that stretch of the road has no drainage system.
