Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has raised serious concerns about the security of lawmakers and staff, highlighting ongoing safety threats within the parliamentary complex.
During the inauguration of the Ninth Parliament’s Parliamentary Service Board, Bagbin emphasized the urgent need for improved security measures.
He revealed that unauthorized individuals have been able to infiltrate the premises, posing a significant risk. Bagbin shared troubling incidents where people have attacked parliamentarians or staff and escaped by scaling the walls.
He stressed that resolving these security issues is vital for the smooth functioning of parliament and urged the new board to prioritize this matter.
Bagbin called on parliamentary leaders to take concrete steps to ensure the safety of everyone working within the parliamentary enclave.
