Pay attention to property tax – Maafo to MMDAs

Senior Minister, Nana Yaw Osafo-Maafo has called on the various Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies (MMDAs) to pay attention to the collection property taxes in their assemblies.

He said government would put in place structures to monitor the collection of property tax since it is one of the taxes that is decentralised in the country.

[ads1]The minister made this call during the swearing in of the Ministerial Advisory Board for the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) in Accra.

He said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) believes in the decentralisation of government and reiterated his party’s commitment to the creation of new districts and regions.

He called on the board members to give the minister their utmost support and play their supervisory work to the best of their knowledge.

The sector minister Hajia Alima Mahama congratulated the members on their appointment and urged them to work hand-in-hand to the development of the government’s policies.

She said her ministry will do all they can to increase revenue at the MMDAs and also increase in the participation of Ghanaians in local governance while improving the human resource capacities of the assembly members.

The 13-member advisory board is made up of Hajia Alima Mahama (Minister), Osei Bonsu Amoah (Dep, Minister), Kwesi Boateng Adjei (Dep. Minister), Collins Ntim (Dep. Minister), C.K Dondieu (Chief Director, MLGRD), Nana Ato Arthur (Local Government Service) and Felix Mensah-La (President, NALAG).

The rest are; Joseph Antwi (Min. of Finance), Benjamin K. Gyasi (Min. of Agriculture), Esther Ofei-Aboagye (Local Government Expert), George Kyei Baffour (Local Government Expert), Ameyaw Cheremeh (MP), and Vladmir Antwi Danso (Executive Director, Centre for Local Governance Advocacy).

Speaking on behalf of the members, Esther Ofei-Aboagye thanked the ministry for the confidence reposed in them and assured them of their support.

She said they would be committed and united in the passion for the government to succeed.
