Some parts of the Greater Accra Region will experience power outages today from 10 am to 5 pm.

This was announced by the Power Distribution Service (PDS), new managers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The company says it is undertaking maintenance works in these communities to improve service delivery in the coming days.

The affected areas are Dome, Katamanso, Commercial Investment Estates, Comet Estates, Berekusu and Agyemanti.

The rest are Adenta Barrier, Frafraha, Ampomah, Ashiyie, Amanfrom, Amrahia, Otinibi, Adoteiman, Danfa, Kweiman, Malejor, Oyibi and Adamrobe.

The PDS also said it has been directed by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to cause emergency outages in other areas in the Greater Accra Region who receive transmissions from the Pokuase-ACP station.

This is to enable GRIDCo relocates a 330kV pylons to make way for ongoing construction works at Pokuase-ACP.

These communities include John Teye, Pokuase new site, Pokuase Council, Aduman, Domiabra, Abensu, Katapor, Dedeman, Teacher Kope, and ACP will also experience emergency outages from today to Tuesday March 19, 2019.

The rest are Pokuase Hill Estate, Abuom, GWCL Pumping Station, KNUST District Office, SKOAM Training Center, Ayigbey Town and its environs.

This is the second notice from the PDS after it took over the management of the state-owned service distributors at the beginning of this month, March 2019.

Already, there are several complaints by citizens over the intermittent power outages this week.

Public Relations Officer of PDS, William Boateng, has explained that the “dumsor” experienced by Ghanaians occurred due to technical problems.

According to him, PDS “lost power from our main power supply point located at Malam, this is the entire western part of Accra. “

He said, “we have the bulk supply point at Graphic road that also went off. We also experienced some frequency challenges so some areas had to be taken off.”

He assured Ghanaians that the company has enough power for distribution and added that “If we are off, it means that we have announced planned maintenance.”
