Ghana’s Parliament resumed sittings today, Tuesday, 27 May 2025, officially beginning the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament.
The Easter break has ended, and Members of Parliament are now back to full legislative duties. With the new session underway, lawmakers will tackle a packed agenda that includes debates, committee work, and urgent national discussions.
One major highlight expected this session is the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, which the Finance Minister is scheduled to present in August.
Speaking to Citi FM ahead of today’s sitting, Second Deputy Majority Whip Richard Acheampong shared some details. “Ministers will present statements for us to assess their progress over the past three months and discuss their plans. We have a packed agenda, especially with the mid-year budget coming up,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus held a weekend retreat to review its past performance and set priorities for this session. The retreat also helped refine their strategy for stronger parliamentary oversight.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin pledged a bold but responsible opposition. “We’re sending a strong message, we’ll hold the government accountable while acting responsibly. Ghanaians can trust we’re preparing to lead in 2028,” he said.
