Special Prosecutor Nominee, Martin Amidu, has been approved by Parliament as the Special Prosecutor with the charge to fight political corruption. He got support from both sides of the House after vetting at the Appointments Committee of Parliament last week. MPs from both sides of the House praised him as a man of principles and integrity.
Rising on a point of Order, MP for Bolgatanga East, Dominic Ayine drew the Speaker’s attention to a suit challenging the eligibility of Mr. Amidu for the post but the Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Ocquaye, directed debate continues on the approval of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor despite a suit in court.
Dominic Ayine said the 66-year old nominee is unqualified for the post because he has past the constitutional age limit for public service. A writ filed Lawyer Tony Lithur at the Supreme Court on the behalf of former Deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, last week indicated that the Special prosecutor is 66 years contrary to the age limit for Public office holders.
Former Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine is seeking order of the court to have his appointment annulled.
The anti-corruption campaigner and former Attorney-General was nominated by president Nana Akufo-Addo in his bid to curb corruption in the country.
