Over 20 persons arrested for brutally assaulting police officer at Amasaman

Some residents, mostly youth of Amasaman a suburb of Accra who were alleged to have brutally assaulted Sergeant Atta Mahama of SWAT Unit of the Ghana Police Service have been arrested.

The suspects, number over 20 who are currently undergoing screening at the Amansaman Police Divisional Command were picked at various locations on Monday night in Ga West Municipal district after the video of the assault went viral on social media.

In the video which was sighted yesterday by Awake News, saw the angry youth subjecting the police officer with life threating object leaving the uniform man with several degrees of injury including bleeding from the nose.

Information on the reason for the attack still remain scanty by the Amasaman Divisional Police Command has stated that the suspects would be arraigned before court and charged for various offences after the screening.

He has since condemned the brutal act on police officers in recent times and noted the law will deal with such offenders ruthlessly.

It would be recalled that in March this year, a similar a video has gone viral on social media in which a mate and driver descended on policeman subjecting him to severe punches.
