Otto Addo names Black Stars squad for World Cup qualifiers, Andre Ayew absent

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, has named a 26-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Central African Republic next month. The Black Stars will hope to get their qualification campaign back on track after faltering in their second Group I match against Comoros.

Regular names such as Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus and Lawrence Ati-Zigi have retained their places in the squad. Notable absentees are skipper of the side, Andre Ayew who has been omitted and Inaki Williams who is nursing an injury.

Meanwhile, Baba Iddrisu, Majeed Ashimeru, Joseph Paintsil, Nathaniel Adjei, Dennis Odoi and Daniel Amartey also miss out due to injuries. Daniel Kofi Kyere and Joseph Aidoo have been omitted due to long-term injuries.

Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku and Mohammed Salisu of AS Monaco are all returning to the squad after some time out. Baba Rahman who excused himself from AFCON duties is yet to be recalled despite his spectacular form in Greece.

Goalkeepers: Lawrence Ati-Zigi (St Gallen), Jojo Wollacot (Hibernian FC), Frederick Asare (Asante Kotoko)

Defenders: Gideon Mensah (AJ Auxerre), Ebenezer Annan (FK Novi Pazar), Mohammed Salisu (AS Monaco), Jerome Opoku (Istanbul Basaksehir), Abdul Mumin (Rayo Vallecano), Alexander Djiku (Fenerbahce Istanbul), Alidu Seidu (Stade Rennes), Tariq Lamptey (Brighton & Hove Albion).

Midfielders: Mohammed Kudus (West Ham United), Ernest Nuamah (Olympique Lyon), Salis Abdul Samed (RC Lens), Ibrahim Sulemana (Cagliari Calcio), Edmund Addo (FK Radnicki Nis), Thomas Partey (FC Arsenal), Elisha Owusu ( AJ Auxerre), Abu Francis (Cercle Brugge).

Forwards: Osman Bukari (RS Belgrade), Issahaku Abdul Fatawu (Leicester City, loan from  Sporting CP), Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace), Ibrahim Osman (FC Nordsjaelland), Kamaldeen Sulemana (FC Southampton), Brandon Thomas-Asante (West Bromwich).

The Black Stars will train at the University of Ghana Stadium for six days before heading out to Bamako for their first assignment on June 6. They will then return home to take on the Central African Republic on June 10 in Kumasi.
