The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has been petitioned by the Forum for Accountable Governance to conduct a full-scale investigation into the $245 million spent on the 13th All-African Games earlier this year.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, informed the Public Accounts Committee that the ministry gave the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation about US$3 million as the official production and broadcasting partner of the games. This statement drew significant backlash from the public.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Kwame Owusu Danso, Convener of the group, expressed optimism that the OSP will uncover all the facts regarding the expenditure on the games, which was held from March 4 to March 23, 2024.

Mr. Danso said “To the extent that I told you I have so much confidence in the Office of the Special Prosecutor, we’re all law-abiding citizens and so, if investigations are conducted and properly so done and the outcome is that there are no corruption-related matters inherent in the organization of the All African Games I think the matter would have been brought to bed.”

“And so, I would not further query or ask questions about it. At least, my conscience will be satisfied that I have done the Lord’s duty for the good people of this country” he added.
