In a shocking turn of events, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted person in connection with alleged multiple corruption cases.
The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, announced that Ofori-Atta is required to return to Ghana immediately to face questioning.
According to Kissi Agyebeng, Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta is suspected of involvement in several high-profile corruption cases, including:
– *Strategic Mobilisation-GRA Contract*: Contractual arrangements between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for revenue assurance in the downstream petroleum sector.
– *Termination of ECG-BXC Contract*: Termination of a distribution loss reduction and associated network improvement project contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Technology (BXC).
– *National Cathedral Payments*: Procurement of contractors and materials, and activities and payments related to the National Cathedral project.
– *Ambulance Procurement Contract*: Activities and payments related to a contract awarded by the Ministry of Health for the purchase and maintenance of ambulances.
– *Tax Refund Account Utilisation*: Payments out of and utilisation of the Tax Refund Account of the GRA.
Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024, is believed to have left Ghana on January 2, 2025.
The OSP communicated with him on January 24, 2025, informing him that he was a suspect in four of the cases and requesting his presence for an interview on February 10, 2025.
However, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers claimed that he was out of the country indefinitely for medical treatment.
Kissi Agyebeng had earlier dismissed these claims, stating that the OSP did not need notification of Ofori-Atta’s arrival in the country and that his personal attendance was required.
The OSP warned that failure to comply would result in steps being taken to compel his return.
