After three days in detention, former National Service Authority (NSA) Director-General Osei Assibey Antwi has been released by the National Investigative Bureau (NIB).

His release on March 22, 2025, follows concerns regarding his health during his time in custody. But what does this development signal for the ongoing investigation into the NSA’s payroll fraud case?

Arriving at his residence in Accra at around 10:28 PM, Assibey was warmly welcomed by his family, who had been anxiously awaiting his return.

Reflecting on his time in detention, he reportedly told his relatives, “I haven’t experienced anything like this before,” a statement that speaks to the gravity of the situation.

The NIB’s investigation has already led to the detention of two deputies from the NSA prior to Assibey’s questioning, raising questions about the depth of the alleged fraud within the organization.

With Assibey’s release, many are left wondering: Is this the beginning of the end for the investigation, or is there more to uncover?

What are the next steps in this high-profile case? Will more individuals face scrutiny, or will the investigation lose steam now that Assibey has been released?

Could his release be a sign of shifting priorities within the investigation, or is it merely a pause in a much larger inquiry?
